Scotland's Top Five Castles





Eilean Donan


Perhaps the most recognizable castle in Scotland, Eilean Donan is a popular filming location that appeared in "Loch Ness", "Highlander" and recently "Elizabeth the Golden Age." It is often mentioned as the most scenic Scottish castle and its hard to disagree with that title. Located on the Kyle of Lochalsh on the road to Skye, Eilean Donan sits isolated on its own island of Isle of Skye in the background.


It was partially destroyed around 1719 during the Jacobite rising, but has since been bought by Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap in 1911 and returned to its former grandeur. Now you can tour the castle, and even rent for your wedding!


Edinburgh Castle
